This was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone, style-wise, but I really wanted to do a Fire Lord portrait of Zuko! They have one for everyone else...stupid Fire Lords who don't deserve it, like Sozin and Ozai...
Anyway, I studied screenshots of the others and tried to copy the style/technique as well as I could. I also noticed that some of the background stuff was symbolic for important events in their reign. Like how Sozin's portrait has the comet in the background, because, well, it's Sozin's comet. Ozai has some gears and smokestacks in his background, I'm guessing because in the last few years there was really an industrial revolution in the Fire Nation. So with Zuko, here's what I did for his background;
First, I tried to make it as symmetrical as possible, signifying that he brought the world into balance.
The comet in the bg signals that the comet made another appearance during his lifetime.
The sun is for the Sun Warrior techniques he learned.
The dragons are because I expect (or hope) that at some point during his reign, he would make it a point to try to rehabilitate the dragon species.
And he's empty-handed (Sozin and Ozai both had fire in their hands) because he's really a non-war Fire Lord. i.e; "We need to replace it with an era of peace andkindness!" "And begin a new era, of love, and peace!" Yeah, Zuko's a hippie Fire Lord.
